As the first day of challenge, let us start to compare life in the USA and Taiwan.
Traffic:
In USA:
Bus, Sub, Moto, Car
In Taiwan:
Bus, Sub, Moto, Car
Not much different, right!
However, the USA has larger land; therefore, most people prefer to buy a car.
In my earlier time of studying in state, I took the bus to school most of the time.
Food:
In USA:
Average cost $20 to 40 / meat to eat outside.
Average cost $300 / week to buy and cook by self
In Taiwan:
Average cost $5 to 40 / meat to eat outside.
Average cost $30 / week to buy and cook by self
A huge gap, right!
In Taiwan, a lot of people did not eat a lot, especially females. Therefore, sometimes I take lunch for 2 dollars.
However, the USA has a huge meal; therefore, it is good for males..
In my earlier time of studying in the state, I bought one meal and finished it as two meals.
For clothes:
In USA:
Average cost $50 to 100 / half year.
In Taiwan:
Average cost $80 to 300 / half year.
Why is it cheaper in the USA?
In the USA, we usually go to an outlet or wait for the season on sale to buy clothes. Therefore, sometimes we could buy a very nice jacket for 50 to 80 dollars yet wear it for more than 5 years or 2 dollar for a T-shirt.
However, if you want to buy high quality clothes, the price is usually high in Taiwan.
Therefore, even now, I prefer to buy clothes while I am in the state.
For living:
In USA:
Average cost $400 to 1000 / month.
In Taiwan:
Average cost $100 to 400 / month.
Rental is not cheap in the USA. The tax and insurance are costive as well.
For me, life in the USA is not easy but simple.
Hi,
Thanks for your sharning, may I know which stats did you live before?
The rent is so cheap compared to what I have now.
As I know, the averarge of the rent for 1B1B is above $2000 in bay area.
:(
I was in New Jersey. I knew the rent is super high in the bay area and New York city.
There are major difference between life in USA and Taiwan, such as Health insurance, car insurance, 401k; rent also need to consider heating cost (unless utility is included in rent already);
NJ life is relatively simple, but sadly NYC has more consideration><
Where did you get $2 tshirt???
99 cents stores
