第一次看此系列文的朋友,請先移步到 Day 1 – 如何開始?進行方式、自我介紹實戰 哦!
在團隊開發中,常常會遇到意見不同的情況。例如你認為某個 API 設計需要改動,但前端工程師希望保留原本的設計。如何用英文解釋自己的觀點,並同時展現合作態度,就很重要。
今日目標:清楚表達「衝突發生 → 我如何溝通 → 最後的合作解決方案」。
[Config]
- Day: Day6 – Behavioral Interview: Conflict and Collaboration
- Scenario: Job interview — describing a conflict with a teammate and how you resolved it.
先選擇過去的一個衝突,想一下:
並且把關鍵字寫下來。
我的關鍵字:
記得把對話錄下來,自己聽一次,想想有哪裡不自然。
救命句(簡短切入專案):
Let’s find a solution together.
爭取思考時間:
That’s a good question. Let me think for a second.
說明衝突
解釋立場
描述行動
展現合作
表達收穫
我發現在說以前事情的時候,我常常會忘記用過去式。
這點在下次練習的時候要注意。
Per-turn Corrections
1. Your Original: “Me and a front-end developer had different opinion about the time format.”
Recast: “You mean: My teammate and I had different opinions about the time format.”
Alternative: “You mean: My teammate and I disagreed on which time format to use.”
2. Your Original: “I think the integer is better than the time string because of we don’t need to consider the time zone.”
Recast: “You mean: I thought the integer was better than the timestamp string because we didn’t need to consider the time zone.”
Alternative: “You mean: I felt using an integer was easier since we didn’t have to handle time zones.”
3. Your Original: “I realized they just follow their front-end document rule.”
Recast: “You mean: I realized they were just following their front-end document rules.”
Alternative: “You mean: I realized they were simply sticking to the front-end guidelines.”
4. Your Original: “As a result, we just follow the time string.”
Recast: “You mean: As a result, we just followed the team’s approach and used the timestamp string.”
Alternative: “You mean: In the end, we went with the team’s standard and used the timestamp format.”
Top 3 Patterns
• Subject and Verb Agreement: Remember to say “my teammate and I” instead of “me and my teammate.” A simple rule: put yourself second in the subject.
• Past Tense Consistency: When telling a story, keep verbs in the past tense. For example, “I realized” instead of “I realize.”
• Article Usage: Use “the” when referring to something specific like “the timestamp string” or “the team’s approach.”
Phrase Pack
• “We had different opinions about…”
• “I explained my reasoning to my teammate.”
• “In the end, we decided to go with…”
• “They were just following the guidelines.”
• “We chose the format that worked best for everyone.”
Intonation Tip
Focus on stressing the key decision point. For example, emphasize “In the end, we decided…” to highlight the conclusion of your story.
Fluency & Pronunciation Notes
• Your pace is good, just keep sentences short and clear.
• You’re pronouncing “timestamp” well—keep it up.
• Nice job with the word “integer,” it was clear and easy to understand.
Key Focus for Next Time
Next time, let’s focus on:
1. Using past tense consistently.
2. Practicing subject-verb agreement (“my teammate and I”).
3. A quick 3-minute drill: do a shadowing exercise where you retell the same story in the past tense, focusing on those corrected forms.
